Greetings In English Level 1- Beginner  Formal Greetings  Formal greetings are used when we speak to someone we don't know, such as a professional or an employer.  Employee:  Hello Mr Adams, how are you today ?  Employer: Hello, I am doing well, thank you for asking. How about you?  Employee: I am doing great. Informal greetings  Informal greetings are used when you speak with your friends or family members. You can use slang in these situations.  You: Hey! What's up? Friend: Hey! nothing much, long time no see. What's new? You: Nothing really, same old. There are many other ways of greeting people formally or informally. What is collocations?

What is collocation ?  A collocation is two or more words that go together. They just sound right and native English speakers use them very often in conversation . Some examples of collocations: Why learn collocations? Your language will be more natural and more easily understood. You will have alternative and richer ways of expressing yourself. It is easier for our brain to remember and use language in chunks or blocks rather than as single words. How to learn collocations When learning new words, try to write them down with some collocations . Think of them as chunks, not as single words ( make it happen, make amends, right away, right in front).  As we were always told in school , reading is the best way to improve your vocabulary so keep reading. Pick a few words from the book that you don't know and learn the meaning.  Make sentences out of the new chunks of words you have just learnt ( " Your shoes are  right in front of you.") . ...

The reason for me starting a blog now after teaching without one for 10 years is that I believe I have a lot to give and there are a lot of people who could benefit from my blog posts, including people wanting to learn to speak English and teachers considering teaching online .
